The Zapad-2021 military exercises are carried out in an area of 2,000 square kilometers in 14 training fields in Russia and Belarus.
The Zapad-2021 joint military exercises kicked off on September 10 in an area of more than 2,000 square kilometers in Russia and Belarus, marking the final stage of the joint training of the armed forces of the two states in 2021, informs the Russian Defense Ministry.
The practical actions of the troops will be carried out simultaneously in nine training camps in Russia and five training camps in Belarus.
Some 200,000 troops, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including more than 290 tanks, more than 240 guns, multiple rocket launcher systems, and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships, participate in the Zapad-2021 maneuvers.
On the territory of Belarus 12,800 military personnel participated, including up to 2,500 Russian military personnel, as well as more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment, including about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars.
In addition to Russian and Belarusian units, some 2,000 soldiers from friendly and allied countries have also been involved in the exercise.
