After the No. 17 typhoon “Lion Mountain” made landfall on the coast of Tanmen Town, Qionghai City, Hainan Province at 22:50 on October 8, the strong wind and rain brought by “Lion Mountain” caused many cities in Hainan during the daytime on October 9. The county is in danger, and the traffic in and out of the island has not yet fully recovered.

Affected by the “Lion Mountain”, torrential rain fell in Changjiang County, Hainan Province. Serious waterlogging occurred near Wanfu Road in Shilu Town. The deepest part of the stagnant water reached 1.5 meters. About 40 houses were flooded and many people were besieged. Changjiang emergency response , Firefighting, public security, comprehensive law enforcement, 120 and other rescue forces rushed to the scene immediately. After the rescuers arrived at the scene, they used rubber boats to evacuate and transfer the people with the deepest water and the most endangered, and then used rope guidance and carrying evacuation to gradually transfer the rest of the people. As of 11 o’clock in the morning, a total of 82 people were transferred.

On the morning of October 9, Lincheng Town, Lingao County, Hainan Province was hit by wind and rain. A river embankment in the urban area was washed down and many streets and communities were flooded. The highest water level exceeded 1 meter. The Lingao Fire and Rescue Brigade dispatched emergency police to rescue and used rubber boats to transfer dozens of trapped people, including the elderly, children and pregnant women. Among them, a paralyzed elderly who was trapped at home was unable to transfer the elderly due to family injuries, so he called the police for help. After the fire rescue personnel arrived, they carried the elderly back to a safe place and settled down.

Heavy rainfall also occurred in Chengmai County, Hainan. Under an interchange bridge, a car and a truck were flooded and some people were trapped. Firefighters dispatched rescue in time to safely transfer the trapped people.

In Baoban Village, Datian Town, Dongfang City, Hainan Province, heavy rainfall caused serious water on the road area. When a car passed through a section of stagnant water, it suddenly turned off. Three people were trapped in the car, including one pregnant woman. After receiving the alarm, the firefighters immediately launched rescue and eventually transferred the pregnant woman safely.

The Hainan Meteorological Department continued to issue a three-level typhoon warning and a three-level rainstorm warning on October 9. Affected by the typhoon, the Qiongzhou Strait has been suspended for nearly 70 hours. Nearly 1,000 trucks have been stranded inside and outside the terminal, and passenger trains entering and leaving the island are still suspended. On October 8, Haikou and Sanya airports cancelled a total of 255 flights, of which Meilan Airport cancelled 226 flights. On October 9th, Meilan Airport will implement 357 flights to increase air capacity through overtime, charter flights, or exchange of small flights for large ones, so as to fully transport stranded passengers.
