US ‘Scared’ Omicron, Biden-Kamala Harris Close!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (US) Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the latest situation regarding the new variant of Covd-19 Omicron.

This was the statement by the White House, after learning that European countries such as the UK, Germany and Italy reported having detected the appearance of the variant in their country.

Biden, who spent Thanksgiving with his family in Nantucket, Massachusetts made his first statement regarding the Omicron variant.

“We don’t know much about that variant except that it’s very concerning. It seems to be spreading faster,” Biden said, as quoted by Reuters on Sunday (11/28/2021).

Omicron was first detected in South Africa, which made a number of countries including the US impose travel bans to and from that country and 7 other countries in the African region.

To date, no cases of Omicron have been identified in the US, according to a recent statement from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

However, Anthony Fauci, a leading US specialist in infectious diseases, said he was not surprised by the appearance of Omicron, which is said to be far more contagious.

Meanwhile, Kamala Harris said the US administration would act with caution when it comes to the travel ban.

“For now, we’ve done what we deem necessary,” Harris said.

The White House itself said health and Covid-19 control officials had been monitoring developments regarding Omicron.
