Trump presents his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States

Donald Trump, former president of the United States, has announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. His words came two years after his electoral defeat against the current president, Joe Biden. This is the third time that the politician has presented himself as a candidate.

Trump expressed his decision during a press conference in Miami on November 15. “Our country is in a horrible moment, we are in trouble. This is not a task for a conventional politician or candidate. It is a task for a great movement that embodies the courage, confidence and spirit of the American people,” said the former president. “This is not going to be my campaign, this is going to be our campaign,” Trump emphasized. The future candidate has affirmed that he is presenting himself in the elections because the world has not yet seen the true glory of what the North American nation can be.

A new electoral campaign
Waqar Rizvi, an American journalist, has stated that his electoral project is likely to be more partisan now: “It is likely that he will pursue all the policies of Biden and the Democrats one by one and get on a platform that seeks to annul them,” said the journalist. “He knows that his power lies in being everything that Biden is not,” he added.

Regarding the elections, the result can go in any direction. However, Trump’s victory depends on the support or lack thereof of the Republican Party. Rizvi has stated that “some say that he has become kryptonite for Republican candidates. Others might argue that the Republicans are actually imprisoned by their wishes, because they still have so much influence among the white, conservative voter base.” Likewise, he has expressed that if Trump plays his cards right, and if the Democrats present a weak candidate again, he has a good chance of winning.

For now, it is not known what the final candidates will be. Trump has announced that he will run in 2024, but the favorite for the Republicans is Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida. “It is not yet known if DeSantis will stand for election,” Rizvi explained. “If Trump runs and wins, I don’t rule out the former president running independently and fragmenting the Republican vote. This would allow the Democrats to win whoever they are, ”he added.

Trump, investigated by the Department of Justice
Belén Chiloeches, a journalist who worked in the United States for years, considers it very difficult for Trump to return to the Presidency: “I think the only reason he can do it is because he feels pressured by the investigations that are on him. For example, the Department of Justice for taking almost 11,000 national security documents from the White House. If he ultimately decides to come forward, this could be an opportunity for the Justice Department to stop this investigation.

According to The Washington Post, Trump has more than 29 civil and criminal lawsuits. These include the attempted modification of the 2020 elections and the assault on Congress, for which he is being investigated.

Ron DeSantis, possible Republican candidate
One of Trump’s biggest rivals, within the Republican Party, is the current governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis. He has ideas on immigration in line with those of the former president and has caused controversy regarding this issue in recent months. DeSantis transported immigrants who arrived from South America to Florida to other states such as New York, while stating that Florida is not a sanctuary state for migrants.

Belén Chiloeches has stated that “Ron DeSantis is winking nationally at his electorate in the United States in 2024. This also implies harming pro-Republican Latinos in the state.” Regarding the country’s immigration policy, if any of the Republican candidates reach the Presidency, the discourse may be increasingly against immigrants arriving in the country.
