An insect was named after Beyoncé – and for an amusing reason. When the Australian scientist Bryan Lessard was asked to describe and name a new species of fly in 2012, it was given the name Scaptia beyonceae. As it turned out, the singer came to mind because of the insect’s golden rump. Good to know!

A species of fly was also named after Arnold Schwarzenegger – again because of a remarkable physical characteristic. The star’s name can be found in the Megapropodiphora arnoldi. A species discovered by American entomologist Brian Brown in 2018. As it turned out, the fly’s unusually large legs reminded him of Schwarzenegger, who is known for his muscular build.
