Red alert? Alert of façade!
After several months of delay as a result of the pandemic, which forced the production to temporarily suspend filming, Netflix finally presented the first preview of Red Notice, his new exclusive mega-production starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and the always lovely Gal Gadot.
The movie has the highest budget to date for a feature film produced by Netflix (presumably until it gets The Gray Man, the new film of the Hnos. Russian), with a sum that would reach US $ 160 million … of which -according to the versions- US $ 20 million would go to each of the three protagonists, of course.
According to the official synopsis:
When Interpol issues a red alert – the highest order to hunt down and capture the world’s most wanted – the FBI’s top profiler, John Hartley (Johnson), takes over the case. His global chase finds him in the middle of a daring heist in which he is forced to team up with the world’s greatest art thief, Nolan Booth (Reynolds), to catch the world’s most wanted art thief, ‘The Bishop’ ( Gadot). The high-flying adventure that follows takes the trio around the world, across the dance floor, trapped in an isolated prison, in the jungle and, worst of all for them, constantly in each other’s company.
Now yes, the notorious advance:
… ok, this looks exactly like what we expected (and intend) to see: an action comedy with luxurious settings around the world, fast cars that are never screwed up by pigeons, The Rock kicking butt, Reynolds as always playing Reynolds, and Gal Gadot conquering us for the umpteenth time with his smile (because with his performance clearly not going to do it). No more no less. I think it would be a mistake to ask for more than entertaining time in front of the screen.
In a previous interview, Hiram garcia, Dwayne Johnson’s usual fellow producer (not to mention they are ex-brothers-in-law), sold us the film and its protagonists as follows:
They’re all like megastars, and when you put them on screen together, their chemistry is fantastic and they’ve all worked with each other in some way. Obviously DJ and Gal in the series Fast, with DJ and Ryan in Hobbs and Shaw. So there are a lot of crossovers, and they are amazing together and fun and they look great in the movie. We had a good time. It’s been tough because we were in full swing and the chemistry was at its highest, and we were rolling and then unfortunately COVID isolated us. So everyone was looking forward to coming back, but I think they are going to have a great time with this movie. It’s the chemistry and fun that everyone brings … Everyone really loves each other, and you can tell in the scenes how much fun they have.
|EIn the immortal words of Ron Burgundy:
“We are laughing”.
Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper), who also produces the film together with Beau Flynn for FlynnPictureCo; adding of course to Johnson, Dany garcia, and Hiram garcia for Seven Bucks Productions, Red Notice will be available on the streaming platform from 12th of November.
