At the same time, CAF announced that Senegal legend El Hadj Diouf, who led Senegal in the 2002 World Cup and the best player in Africa twice (2001 and 2002), will be an assistant in the draw ceremony, and he will be joined on the stage by former Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who led Togo to its only appearance in 2006 World Cup and was crowned the best player in Africa 2008, while the draw ceremony will be managed by the Director of Competitions of the Confederation of African Confederation Samson Adamu.

The ten eligible teams will be split into two tiers based on the FIFA rankings in November 2021. The five highest-ranked teams will meet against the five lowest-ranked teams and the first leg will be played on the grounds of the second-ranked teams.

According to the FIFA ranking for the month of November 2021, the distribution of teams will be as follows:

Level one: Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Nigeria

Level Two: Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo
