The husband took the sample for DNA testing to exonerate his wife
That is the touching story of DNA testing that Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, director of the Center for DNA Analysis and Genetic Technology, witnessed.
The story began one morning when a couple brought a cut off fingernail wrapped in a plastic bag to the Center for DNA Analysis and Genetic Technology. They came to test the child’s parentage. The man Nguyen Van Hoang looked at his wife with affection and said to Mrs. Nga: “I want a DNA test so my wife can feel secure and comfortable.”

At first, Ms. Nga thought the couple intended to test the paternity of the child. But that’s not the case. They want to test the mother-child relationship.
Mr. Hoang told Ms. Nga: “I have nothing to do with this test… The person who needs to do the test is my wife.”
Mrs. Nga asked her husband: “So you’re not the baby’s father?”. Mr. Hoang told Ms. Nga that it was not the child’s father who wanted to be tested, but his wife was also not the child’s biological mother.
Ms. Nga did not understand anything about the complicated relationship between the couple and the baby they were testing. After taking the test sample, Hoang also confided that at the age of 20, his wife Mai Lien raised the child on behalf of her roommate.
Her close friend, after having an unwanted pregnancy and giving birth, left with a letter hoping that Ms. Mai Lien would take the baby to an orphanage. Looking at the red child, crying and thirsting for milk, Mai Lien felt pity and anger at her cruel roommate who left her child behind.
In that confusing situation, Mai Lien was also in a difficult situation because she was still in school so it was difficult to take care of the child. But she also did not have the heart to send the child to an orphanage.
“The child was abandoned by his biological mother once, so I don’t want him to be abandoned a second time,” Mai Lien told Mrs. Nga.
The humane, touching story behind DNA testing
Mai Lien decided to keep the child and take care of her with the support of her neighbors and the teachers in her class also helped. Although it was very difficult, she eventually overcame it with everyone’s support.

Later when she went to work, Mai Lien met Mr. Hoang, a young man who knew her situation well. He loved and appreciated what she did and decided to marry her even though his family strongly opposed it. Although he explained to his parents that the baby Mai Lien was taking care of was adopted, his parents did not believe him. His parents thought that their son was so stupid that he had lost his mind. With no other choice, Mr. Trung had to rely on science to clear his name to regain his wife’s dignity.
“I know I can’t easily convey faith with words. Therefore, I need scientific evidence such as DNA results,” Mr. Hoang shared with Ms. Nga. He shared with his wife, encouraged her to get tested, and finally she agreed.
According to Ms. Nga, the test results show that Mai Lien is not the child’s mother. The couple did not come directly to get the results like other couples. They asked the center to send the test results back to the family (Ms. Mai Lien’s parents-in-law).
Mrs. Nga was very touched and appreciated Hanh, a person who ignored all the rumors about other people’s hardships in raising children. Thanks to a DNA test, Ms. Mai Lien was vindicated by doubts about her dignity from her husband’s family. From now on, her husband’s family appreciates the good feelings that Ms. Mai Lien has for her adopted son. They realize the good value and love their daughter-in-law more and more.
