A person died following an explosion which took place Thursday at 8:15 am on the site of the chemical and thermal metal stripping company Thermo-Clean, in Heusden-Zolder (Limburg). The employee who lost his life was near an oven which allegedly exploded.
“During the production process, an oven would have overheated”, explains the mayor of Heusden-Zolder Mario Borremans. “Upon opening the oven, the combination of gases and oxygen caused an explosion.”
Firefighters and emergency services attended the scene and all company employees were evacuated. The medical intervention plan was initiated, then lifted around 9:30 am. Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed and not to use ventilation systems. In the meantime, it was clarified that there was no danger to health or the environment.
