Freiburg (AP) – Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg has to do without defender Manuel Gulde again at the end of the first half of the season against Bayer Leverkusen. According to the club on Friday, the 30-year-old will also be out of the game against the Rhinelander this Sunday (3:30 p.m.) due to muscular problems, after he had already missed the game against Union Berlin (0-0) last Wednesday with an injury.
With a win, Freiburg would then have 29 points and should be happy about the second best Bundesliga first half of the club’s history. In the 1994/95 season, the sports club – calculated on the basis of the three-point rule – scored 33 even more points. At the same time, if they are successful, they will be able to win the first time on a Champions League place, because Freiburg would then outstrip Leverkusen’s third-placed team in the table.
“If we stayed fifth, it would be great. If we were fourth, it would be incredibly good. And if we do anything else because we didn’t win the game, the world won’t end,” said coach Christian Streich, commenting on the starting position.
