## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

The Coverup is a 2008 crime-thriller film directed by Brian Jun. The film stars Gabriel Mann as personal injury attorney Stuart Pepper, along with Eliza Dushku, John Savage as Thomas Thacker, and Michael Welch as Kevin Thacker. Previously known as The Thacker Case, the film is based on a true story.

The plot follows Stuart Pepper as he faces the challenge of his young career by taking on a controversial wrongful death case in small town Iowa. The case centers on Kevin Thacker, whose body was discovered in the alley outside the Marshalltown Police Department following his arrest for drunk driving. The story presented by the arresting officer appears highly suspicious, and various entities, ranging from the investigating detective to the FBI, seem to be helping cover up the events of that night. Having made a promise to the Thacker family to reveal the truth, Stu confronts an uphill battle. The film has a runtime of one hour and twenty-eight minutes and was released in the United States on October 18, 2008.
