## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

The Battery is a 2012 American drama horror film that serves as the directorial debut of Jeremy Gardner. The story follows two former baseball players, Ben and Mickey, as they navigate the rural back roads of New England during a zombie apocalypse. The film stars Jeremy Gardner as the tough Ben and co-producer Adam Cronheim as the gentle Mickey. As the pair traverses the landscape teeming with the undead, their differing personalities and survival philosophies lead to frequent disagreements. The title refers to their dynamic as a battery, a baseball term for a pitcher and catcher working in tandem to outwit a batter, which in this context represents their efforts to survive encounters with zombies. The tension between the two men intensifies when they hear a human voice over their walkie-talkies. This discovery forces them to confront conflicting perspectives regarding the potential for salvation versus the necessity of suspicion in their dangerous environment. The film also features supporting performances from actors including Niels Bolle and Alana O'Brien.
