## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

Released in the United States on December 28, 1932, The Animal Kingdom is a feature film spanning one hour and twenty-five minutes that combines comedy, drama, and romance, and is based on a play by Philip Barry. The film revolves around a man named Tom Collier who attempts to justify his love for both his wife and his mistress. Prior to his marriage, Tom shares a great relationship with Daisy. However, when he decides to marry, he asks Cecelia instead of Daisy. Following the marriage, Tom becomes bored with the social scene and the obligations of his life, leading him to publish books that will sell rather than the books he actually wants to write. Matters worsen when Cecelia wants Tom to fire his old friend, who is working as a butler. When Tom later attempts to get back together with Daisy to renew his former feelings, Daisy turns the tables on him and leaves in order to protect both of them.
