The plot follows Niels Pind, a man struggling with alcoholism who is frequently exploited by members of his local community. His circumstances change when his son, Jens, returns home from America possessing a significant amount of money. Upon his arrival, Jens purchases the local estate and begins an industrial gravel extraction operation. His singular focus on financial gain earns him a negative reputation among the townspeople, leading his father to disown him. However, the narrative trajectory of the character shifts as Jens begins to fall in love with a woman named Ingrid. The film was released in Denmark on October 13, 1957. It remains a notable entry in the history of Danish cinema, serving as a modern interpretation of earlier source material.
