## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

My Internship in Canada is a 2015 Canadian political satire film written and directed by Philippe Falardeau. The story follows Guibord, an independent Member of Parliament representing the vast Northern Quebec county of Prescott-Makadewà-Rapides-aux Outardes. The plot centers on an unexpected national crisis when Guibord finds himself in the position of casting the decisive vote on whether Canada will enter a war. As the country monitors the situation, Guibord travels through his district to consult with his constituents. He is accompanied on this journey by his wife, his daughter, and an idealistic intern from Haiti named Sovereign. Throughout the trip, the Member of Parliament must navigate a debate that spirals out of control due to the involvement of various lobbyist groups. Ultimately, Guibord is forced to confront his own conscience regarding the pending vote. The film, also known by its French title Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre, premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival. It received four nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning three of them.
