## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police is a 2012 American documentary film directed by Andy Grieve and Lauren Lazin. The film focuses on the English rock group The Police and is based on the memoir by the band's guitarist, Andy Summers. The documentary chronicles Summers’ career, beginning with his early work in the psychedelic music scene of the 1960s, including his time with The Animals. It further details his chance meetings with drummer Stewart Copeland and bassist Sting, which resulted in the formation of the new wave trio. The film explores the band’s rise to fame and its highly publicized dissolution in the early 1980s. To provide insight from the guitarist’s perspective, the production utilizes rare archival footage and photographs taken by Summers. Additionally, the documentary captures the band members as they prepare to reunite for a global tour in 2007, marking their first reunion in two decades. The film features appearances by Andy Summers, Sting, and Stewart Copeland.
