## Executive Summary & Cultural Positioning

Besa is a crime drama television series created by Tony Jordan and Igor Stoimenov that first aired in 2018. The series follows Uros Peric, a small businessman from Belgrade who accidentally kills the daughter of an Albanian mob boss in a car accident and is forced to commit crimes for the mafia to save his family. Culturally and industrially, the series is significant as the first TV series in the Adriatic region that compares with the standards of British television drama, bringing together writer and producer Tony Jordan alongside Serbian screenwriters, script doctors, and over 200 actors from former Yugoslavia, Albania, the United Kingdom, and France.

The tone of the series is driven by the central concept of the besa, a traditional Albanian promise that must be maintained even at the cost of living, frequently manifesting through blood feuds. Set up as an international co-production between Adrenalin and Red Planet Pictures and filmed over 120 days across numerous locations, the series blends local and international elements into a gritty crime narrative.
