Set in the shopping area of Akihabara, known as the cathedral of otaku and geek culture, the television series Akiba's Trip The Animation follows a group of heroes responsible for protecting the area from mysterious entities. An urban legend describes monsters known as bagurimono or Synthisters lurking in the dark corners of this anime paradise. These creatures have invaded the shopping area, preying on patrons and feasting on their social energy and will to live. When Tomotsu Denkigai encounters one of these monsters, he is almost killed before being saved at the last moment by a girl named Matome Mayonaka, who repels the attack and later revives him.
