During the night from Thursday to Friday, around 2 a.m., a man was shot in the city center of Charleroi.

According to our first information, he received several bullets in the body, at least in the back and the leg confirms the parquet floor, between the place du Manège and the boulevard Jacques Bertrand, close to the town hall. His health status is unknown at this time.

The shooting would be linked to the drug industry, we heard without official confirmation at this stage. Heavily armed police officers could however be seen in the district, avenue de l’Europe and at the bottom of rue Turenne.

On the spot, the residents are fed up: the situation has lasted for months, according to the testimonies collected last night by our correspondent Fabian Vanhove.

The situation is not new: local residents had already told us of their insecurity, particularly at night, and this as early as 2014. Since then, the local police have stepped up their patrols and the fight against narcotics is a priority, operations suddenly. -de-fist have been carried out at a sustained pace since the beginning of the year. But in April 2017, three shots hit the facade of the Monte Cristo café, on Boulevard Bertrand. In October 2018, a man had been the target of a bullet in the same place, he had been hit in the ear. Last February, again, another man was attacked with a machete on the sidewalk opposite.

More information to follow.
