He is the only external newcomer that SC Freiburg presented this summer: Maximilian Eggestein came from Werder Bremen, who were relegated to the Bundesliga, as the successor to Baptiste Santamaria in the central midfield. David Weigend had a chat with the 24-year-old.
BZ: Mr. Eggestein, you’ve been in Freiburg for three weeks. Are you still living in the hotel?
Eggestein: I stayed in the hotel for the first two weeks, but luckily I found a nice apartment in the Wiehre. I live there now. I like it very much here, as well as the surroundings. I’ve already ridden to Kirchzarten on my bike and once ran onto the Franzosenschanze.
BZ: How were you received by the team?
Eggestein: Very good, the guys welcomed me very openly. I already knew a few of them. Christian Gnter, for example. I’ve had to go to a doping test with him once or twice before. This is where you start a conversation. And I still know assistant coach Florian Bruns from my time in Bremen.
