“Roger and Rafa fans should cheer on Novak Djokovic”

Novak Djokovic has the opportunity to write a new page of history during this edition of the US Open. The world number 1 pursues the dream of achieving the “Grand Slam of the calendar”, a feat that has only been achieved once in the era of the Open (by Rod Laver in 1969).

Having won all three major majors of the season, the Serbian phenomenon is also a big favorite in New York, where he has triumphed three times in his career.

The 34-year-old Belgian made it through the first three rounds at Flushing Meadows with relative ease, only encountering some difficulties at the start of the match against Kei Nishikori. After losing the first set in the tie-break, Nole increased his engine speed by archiving the training without spending too much energy.

In case of triumph in the Big Apple, Djokovic would climb to 21 Slams, thus bypassing the eternal rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The Swiss and the Spaniard are both absent due to injury and will not return to the pitch until 2022.

Speaking on the Tennis Channel in recent days, former US champion Jim Courier explained that all tennis fans should cheer on Novak during these two weeks in New York.

Jim Courier opens on the Big 3

“Let it be clear to everyone at home in the UK. Sorry for you Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal fans, but I encourage Novak Djokovic to win the Grand Slam.

It would be great for the sport. Obviously incredible for him but also for tennis as a whole “- said Jim Courier.
Novak Djokovic kept his chances of achieving the Grand Slam by beating Kei Nishikori 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round of the US Open 2021 on Saturday.

Djokovic is now four wins away from becoming the first man since Rod Laver to win all four majors in a calendar year. “Overall, I would like to leave a legacy first of all a good human being, someone that people respect as a person, who has a good character, and of course afterwards a tennis player,” said declared Novak Djokovic.

“For me these things are more important than the results” Djokovic also said he is never surprised when he wins Majors or other big events because he always aims to do so.

“Well, I wouldn’t be fully honest if I told you that I don’t think or believe or visualize that I can win every Grand Slam I participate in,” said Djokovic.

“I’m not surprised when I win Slams and big tournaments because that’s always a goal. It’s a very clear picture in my head and I’m trying to do whatever I can to get my hands on the Grand Slam trophy. ”
