Right-wing extremism in Saxony-Anhalt: How the Office for the Protection of the Constitution accompanies dropouts

Program lasts three to five years

Jochen Hollmann says clients would work with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution for three to five years “if they are taken on and have the declared intention to get out until the end.” With a view to the nine graduates so far, successfully completed means that the people at least no longer stand out with corresponding crimes.

The first client who was able to leave the program switched to the intended follow-up phase in 2018. With the end of the program it was to be assumed that he would not relapse. He has reached a certain distance from right-wing extremism.

Leaving no guarantee of turning away from right-wing extremism

However, there is no guarantee that those who drop out will leave the extreme right-wing scene forever. Head of department Heike Luckhardt says one person successfully completed the dropout program in 2017/18, but recently got back in touch and is now one of the current five clients. A vote of confidence for Luckhardt.
