“Real Madrid was the worst possible rival”

Two current issues, beyond tomorrow’s game against Rayo in Vallecas, prevail today in the Athletic environment. The Cup draw, on the one hand. Munian’s discharge from COVID, for another.

Regarding the draw for the quarterfinals of the KO tournament, Marcelino assures that “Real Madrid is the worst possible rival, but that’s football. Last season we had a match between Ibiza, Alcoyano and Betis. The difference with respect to the current one (Real Mancha and Barça) is obvious, but it’s what we have to do. After the great night against Barça, we have all the illusion and hope of overcoming the previous one”.

When asked if it is possible to eliminate Real Madrid, the Athletic coach answers with a resounding “we’ll see”: “We’ve been against them three times in a month and a half. We have to face each other and that’s it. Now all our attention is on the game against Lightning”.

On the loss of Muniain, a great highlight in the cup crossing against Barça, Marcelino indicated that “when you have losses it always feels bad because the possibilities of choice and the team are reduced. It is something (positive for coronavirus) that you have to accept, in any case, because we have been living with it for a long time”.
