Álvaro Odriozola (26 years old) does not give up. His ideology is not about lowering his arms or giving up. The Full-back for Real Madrid, on loan at Fiorentina, is proving, with minutes, games and a lot of confidence, that he is a valid defender for bigger companies. The idea of succeeding one day at Real Madrid is still in his head, something that has been denied him since he signed for the white team in 2018.
For the first time since signing with the Madrid entity, Odriozola is starting, playing continuously and feeling supported by the coach on duty, in this case, Vicenzo Italiano, Fiorentina coach. He only experienced a similar situation in the final stretch of last season, when injuries to Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, led Zidane to give him more than two games in a row as a starter for the first time, reaching nine starts in the League. And the response from San Sebastian was positive.
At Fiorentina he has established himself as a starter. He has participated in 17 Serie A games (in the first days he was still in the Madrid squad), twelve of them as a starter. This same week he scored his first goal, opening the scoring against Genoa, in the resounding victory of one of the teams that best practices in the Italian championship.
With contract in force until 2024, in Florence he has found the right place and team to take that leap in quality that he pointed out during his time at Real Sociedad and that led him first to the national team and then to Real Madrid, a team in which he coincided with Julen Lopetegui and what took him to the World Cup in Russia, but that hardly gave him opportunities in the white team.
Follow-up of the coaching staff
Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff are following Odriozola’s evolution in a championship they know perfectly well. Coach and player have a talk pending in the coming weeks. Until then, the winger continues to do his thing, that is, accumulating quality minutes and recovering sensations lost over time.
At Real Madrid today, the position is a matter of two. In theory, the starter is Dani Carvajal, but the different physical problems he has suffered at the beginning of the season are not allowing him to exercise as such. Lucas Vázquez has become the alternative, something that already happened last season and whose change of position gave him the possibility of continuing at Real Madrid. Ancelotti has even placed him on one occasion or another as a winger, but the renewal of the contract was subject to occupying that position, that of full-back.
