In the quarter-final first leg, PSG created a good starting position with a win at Bayern. Chelsea also win away.
It was the new edition of last year’s finals. The expectations for the first leg in the quarter-finals of the Champions League between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were correspondingly high. At 2: 3 they were not disappointed.
It was an offensive spectacle without low points for over 90 minutes. The people of Munich were mostly responsible for this. With a whirling offensive and a weakening defensive.
Although the Munich side lacked the injured world footballer Robert Lewandowski and the Corona-positive Serge Gnabry, two offensive regulars and a total of 52 goals this season, the home team scored goal scenes almost every minute in the first half in the Munich snow flurry. The ball was almost always found in or around the Paris penalty area.
Mbappé makes Neuer look bad
The most dangerous team in the current Champions League season failed either because of the goal frame, the outstanding PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas or because of inaccuracies at the most stupid moment. Normally, after so many chances, you would still go into the break with a lead, not against PSG.
The highly praised and predisposed offensive trio Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar could only rarely put themselves in the limelight. But when it did, it was remarkably effective. After just three minutes, Neymar launched the lightning-fast Mbappé, which made Manuel Neuer look bad from close range. The goal conceded further encouraged Bayern offensively. And PSG? It makes it 2-0. Neymar crosses to defense chief Marquinhos, who pushes in. The Munich defensive was – as so often this season – not firm on both goals.
A few minutes before the break, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who was still chasing goals for PSG until last summer, was able to bring in after some fine preparatory work by Benjamin Pavard.
The third goal with the fourth chance
In the second half it went on as usual. Bayern attacked, equalized after an hour thanks to Thomas Müller. And PSG scores the third away goal with the fourth chance of the game. Mbappé first wiggled Jérôme Boateng and then picked Neuer.
What an effectiveness the French: If Munich only had such a strong quota, it would have been a debacle for the guests. So you go into the second leg next Tuesday with a good starting position.
Chelsea wins against Porto
Even better Chances of oneen entry into the semi-finals won Chelsea in a guest appearance at FC Porto. Goes through gates of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell the team from coach Thomas Tuchel, who was on the sidelines at PSG until December, mit is a reassuring one 2:0-Lead into the second leg.
