The two leaders highly appreciated the strong and dynamic development of cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia in various fields. Strategic trust is increasing through delegation exchanges and regular high-level contacts. Cooperation in the fields of security – defense, maritime cooperation, agriculture, fisheries, education and training, tourism, people-to-people exchanges… achieved many positive results.
Economic and trade cooperation is a bright spot in the two countries’ relationship. In the first 11 months of 2023, investment capital from Indonesia into Vietnam increased by 37%, with a total newly registered capital of more than 1 billion USD. Indonesia maintains its position as Vietnam’s 3rd largest trade partner and Vietnam is Indonesia’s 4th largest trade partner in ASEAN with total trade turnover in the first 11 months of 2023 reaching nearly 13 billion USD.
Based on the achievements, to create new momentum for bilateral relations, the two sides agreed to consider soon bringing the Vietnam – Indonesia Strategic Partnership to new heights. The two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at high levels and at all levels; Effectively deploy bilateral cooperation mechanisms, high-level agreements, and signed documents; soon develop an Action Program for the period 2024 – 2028 appropriate to the new situation.
The two sides agreed to strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to soon reach 15 billion USD and higher at 18 billion USD before 2028; create favorable conditions and encourage businesses of the two countries to invest in each other’s markets; Expand cooperation into new fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, green economy, renewable energy, investment in developing electric vehicle ecosystems and electric vehicle batteries; expand cooperation programs under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JTEP); strengthen cooperation in the field of Halal; Strengthen food security cooperation, research and promote the signing of the Rice Trade Agreement.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the President of Indonesia also affirmed to strengthen cooperation in other important fields such as defense, security, maritime cooperation; coordinate to address common security challenges at sea; fisheries and fisheries cooperation; coordinate to limit illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities; promote cooperation in education, training, and tourism; Strengthen connectivity, increase the frequency of direct commercial flights, promote people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between localities of the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed the regional situation and concerns; agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral organizations; Strengthen cooperation, consolidate solidarity, central role and common viewpoint of ASEAN in regional security issues, including the East Sea issue; Support Laos to successfully complete the responsibility of ASEAN Chairmanship 2024.
The Prime Minister asked Indonesia to send a high-ranking representative and support Vietnam to successfully organize the ASEAN Future Forum in 2024 on rapid, sustainable, people-centered development to contribute to building the Community. ASEAN is self-reliant and sustainable.
