Earlier this week, WhatsApp finally made it possible to transfer chat history between iOS and Android devices. The developers say this has been one of their most requested features. The key was to make sure that it could be done in a safe and reliable manner. For now, the feature is only available on Samsung devices running Android 10 or later, but WhatsApp plans to add more Android devices soon. WhatsApp did not provide any further details.

The process of transferring chats from iPhone to Samsung phone is relatively complex. If you are upgrading from an iPhone to a supported Samsung device, you will need the following:
- Samsung SmartSwitch app version 126.96.36.199 or higher installed on your new device
- WhatsApp iOS version 188.8.131.52 or higher on your old device
- WhatsApp Android version 184.108.40.206 or higher on your new device
- USB-C to Lightning cable (or equivalent adapters)
- Use the same phone number on the new device as on the old device.
- Your new Android device must be new or factory reset.
How to transfer chat history to WhatsApp
Once you have all the necessary hardware and all of your software is up to date, you can begin the transfer. First of all, you need to turn on your new Samsung phone and connect it to your iPhone with the cable. Choose “Smart Switch” as the transfer mode. Your new Samsung phone will then ask you to scan a QR code on its screen with your iPhone’s camera.
After scanning the code, press “Start” on your iPhone. After the process is complete, go back to your Samsung phone. Once setup is complete, open WhatsApp and sign in using the same number you used on your iPhone. When prompted, press “Import” and wait for it to complete. At this point, you should see all of your chats in the app on your new Samsung phone.
WhatsApp notes that your iPhone will always keep all of your data unless you erase it or delete the app. Keep this in mind if you plan to sell the phone or give it to a family member.
Also, remember that you can only transfer your account information, profile photo, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. Your call history and display name cannot be transferred. It should also be noted that WhatsApp cannot see any of the data you transfer, and the transferred data is not transferred to cloud storage as a result of the transfer.
