In the midst of the ongoing speculation about Neymar’s future in the star ensemble of Paris Saint-Germain, there is now clarity: According to “L’Équipe”, the Brazilian’s contract will be extended automatically.

Should Neymar stay in Paris?

According to information from the French sports newspaper, a corresponding clause in the Brazilian’s working paper should be due on July 1st. This is intended to extend the term of his contract by another year until the end of June 2027.

Neymar and PSG had agreed on the option for his new contract. This was announced in May 2021 with a term until June 2025. On July 1 of last year, a first option for another year until summer 2026 was taken.

Neymar no longer untouchable at PSG

Neymar has played for PSG since 2017. The rich capital club had brought the now 30-year-old from FC Barcelona for the record transfer fee of 222 million euros.

His whereabouts at PSG does not seem certain these days. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently emphasized: “I expect all players to do a lot more than last season. Much more!”

When asked about Neymar’s specific future, Al-Khelaifi told the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca”: “We can’t talk about it in the media, some will come, some will go. But these are private negotiations.”
