After introducing the second-generation Niro in November last year, Kia has now released some technical specifications. Thus, the Korean SUV will be offered in three engine versions: full-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and 100% electric. The Asian manufacturer has published some details regarding the Niro HEV version.
Two months ago, Kia revealed to us the aesthetic changes Niro received, both on the outside and on the inside. We were informed that the model benefits from “Greenzone Drive Mode” technology. Once activated, the car automatically switches from hybrid to pure electric mode in residential areas, near schools and hospitals.
Moreover, the system recognizes the driver’s preferred areas, which have been previously entered in the navigation system. These areas are green areas where running will be done only in electric mode.
The new Kia Niro will be bigger than the current model

Now, the Asian manufacturer has also published a series of technical information regarding full-hybrid variant (HEV). Details of the other two versions will be announced in the near future.
So, the new Kia Niro HEV will be equipped with a more efficient version of the 1.6-liter petrol engine. The assembly will be completed by an electric motor, and the combined power will be 141 hp, as in the case of the current generation. The car will receive the second generation of the six-speed DCT automatic transmission (with double clutch).
According to Kia officials, the suspension and steering system have been improved for better dynamic performance.
Unlike the model on the market, the new Niro will be bigger. Thus, it measures 4,420 mm in length (+65 mm), the width is 1,825 mm (+20 mm), and the height received another 10 mm, reaching 1,545 mm. The wheelbase is 2,720 mm, which means an extra 20 mm.
The volume of luggage space will be 451 liters, 15 liters more compared to the current model. At the same time, the announced aerodynamic coefficient Cx is 0.29.
The new generation Kia Niro will be launched this year.
