North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he would step up cooperation with Japan on the war in Ukraine.

Secretary General Stoltenberg, who visited Japan today (31st), emphasized the partnership between NATO and Japan at the place where he visited the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s base in Iruma.

“The war in Ukraine is important to all of us,” Stoltenberg said. “We are very grateful for the support Japan is providing with its aircraft and cargo (transport) capabilities.”

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that “we will do our best to provide assistance to protect the lives of Ukrainians.”

Prime Minister Kishida also promised to play an active role as the chair of the G7.

Stoltenberg is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Kishida on the same day to discuss related issues.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General Stoltenberg yesterday (30th) in Korea requested an increase in the Korean government’s military support for Ukraine.
