Mega Vaccination campaign against Covid-19 begins in Brazil

With the slogan Medium protection is not protection and more than 350 million drugs distributed, the largest inoculation operation in national history calls on Brazilians to complete the vaccination cycle.

More than 21 million people must return to the injection sites to take the second dose and the crusade is aimed at the entire group over 18 years of age.

The campaign has this Saturday a national mobilization to reinforce the importance of the population completing the cycle, that is, taking the two servings, even after the deadline recommended by the manufacturers of immunizers.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Sao Paulo, with 4.1 million people, and Minas Gerais, with more than 2.2 million, are the states with the most residents in this situation.

Among Brazilians without completing the vaccination cycle, 2.9 million are between 30 and 34 years old.

Also the campaign, which will run until November 26, announced another important step for immunization: the expansion of the booster dose for the entire adult population.

In total, 158 million people over the age of 18 are part of the target audience for the booster portion.

From now on, the interval for the application of this amount changes, reducing from six to five months after the end of the vaccination cycle. The recommendation applies to all antigens used in the campaign.

Such guidance is based on scientific research showing a decrease in the immune response, especially from the fifth month after the second dose.

More than 100 million Brazilians are eligible to take the booster, that is, they completed the immunization five months ago or more.

The Health portfolio anticipates that 12.5 million people will receive this dose in November and 2.9 million in December.

To date, Brazil accumulates 612 thousand 370 lives lost and 22 million three thousand 317 infected by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.
