Corona pandemic has made political education difficult

One Wahl-O-Mat and a lot of action: This is a way to approach people and discuss political issues. The state-wide political education days begin in Rostock.

Rostock (dpa / mv) – The corona pandemic has made the work of political education much more difficult and presented new challenges. The different positions on the subject of Corona clash much more violently than on other topics, said the managing director of the women’s education network MV, Kati Wolfgramm, about the days of political education, which start on Wednesday in Rostock. Buzzwords such as division, lack of freedom of expression or controlled media played a role. Unfortunately, the overall social responsibility of the individual only played a subordinate role. The nationwide series of events will last until October 3rd.

Wolfgram sees a clear connection between the growing dissatisfaction of people with the difficulties in communicating within society. Many felt left alone, withdrew and pointed blame on politicians. The conversation is now much more compelling and urgent than at other times. That is why the aim of the Days of Political Education is to get into conversation with people on the street and with lots of actions.

At the many events in the next two and a half weeks, in addition to the corona pandemic, the crises of this time such as climate change or global conflicts will be addressed. It should also deal with topics such as an understanding of democracy, freedom of expression or social engagement. The days of political education are organized by several educational institutions and foundations.
