MCC’s new Compact will improve energy performance (Macky Sall)

Dakar, Sept 9 (APS) – The implementation of the new Compact of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCC) for the benefit of Senegal will help to significantly improve the performance of the country in terms of electricity supply, the president said on Thursday. Macky Sall.


“The implementation of a second compact will help to significantly improve our performance in terms of electricity supplies and raise the access rate in rural and peri-urban areas,” he said in particular.

He proceeded, at the Palace of the Republic, to the official launch of the phase of implementation of the new Compact of the Millenium challenge corporation endowed with a financing of 600 million dollars (330 billion FCFA) intended to finance energy projects.

The Senegalese Head of State was thus delighted by the fact that the second phase of the MCC, like the previous one, was part of axis 1 of the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE) by building infrastructure. development including the essential energy.

He indicated that this compact would make it possible, through these three components, to “ modernize and strengthen the SENELEC transport network, increase access to electricity in rural and peri-urban areas and contribute to building the capacities of players in the electricity sector thanks to the reforms that will be undertaken ”.

“In total, more than 12 million Senegalese will be impacted by this project, including 1.8 million who will be able to access electricity, making a decisive contribution to my goal of universal access to electricity at horizon 2025, “ he said.

According to Macky Sall, the first compact helped improve the standard of living of Senegalese populations through infrastructure and agriculture.

The Head of State reiterated Senegal’s commitment to work within the deadlines set by the project, stressing that this compact was a “ manifestation of solidarity ” from the American people to the Senegalese people.
