The attraction will be returned to its place in October this year
In Yakutsk, the final stage of the restoration of the monument to Lenin has begun. At the moment, welding and polishing of the pedestal plates are being carried out. The attraction will be returned to its place in October. How the work is going on – see in the photo and video of the YSIA correspondent.
The bronze monument to Lenin stood on the central square of Yakutsk for more than 50 years. Its opening took place on October 25, 1967. Over the years, due to the thawing of soils, the foundation has changed its axis. This was reflected in the monument itself – microcracks and chips appeared. On the night of July 14, 2022, the monument was dismantled for restoration.
“The monument to Lenin on the main square of our city is a very powerful center of attraction. Therefore, when he died, questions immediately arose in society. The monument has been under restoration for almost a year, the work is really very painstaking. The monument itself is non-solid, consists of several parts. They are connected by welding seams, where the voltage also went. We are now checking and strengthening each seam so that the monument can stand for a long time, ”said Ruslan Vasiliev, chairman of the board of the Yakut Republican branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.
Ruslan Vasiliev drew attention to the fact that, according to safety precautions and instructions, the monument is in a horizontal position during repair work. Tomorrow they will put it in a vertical position and start cleaning the surface.
“In order for the monument to stand as long as possible, it needs to be tinted every 15-20 years. This will protect the monument from various defects, which are mainly related to weather conditions,” Vasilyev said.
Now the workers are also polishing the granite foundation slabs of the monument. It is noteworthy that the commission decided to leave the historical plates, which were made more than half a century ago. They even preserved the initials of the authors of the monument: the architect is Yu.D. Struchkov, the sculptor is N.N. Milovidov.

The pedestal is a cultural heritage, so the masters tried to keep it in its original form.
“Of course, when it was dismantled, there were breakdowns, but we try to preserve the plates as much as possible. Polishing is done in several stages. On average, one plate takes 1.5-2 hours. Our plates are unusual – each of them is individual. They are all numbered: we need not to upset the balance and return them to the appropriate places, ” said foreman Vadim Struchkov.
