Visitors to Old Trafford cannot miss the statues of club legends Sir Matt Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law outside the stadium.
That’s where Jimmy Murphy came in. He died at the age of 79 and was active in various positions at Manchester United. Murphy was a youth coach, scout, team manager, assistant coach and manager. More than 1,000 supporters attended the unveiling of the statue.
“A great moment, the whole family is extremely proud,” says his son Jim. “We have always cherished our father’s contribution to Manchester United, but this beautiful statue is further confirmation of his remarkable legacy at Old Trafford.”
Murphy was born on August 8, 1910 and died on November 14, 1989.
