Madrid police report on the arrest of Hugo Carvajal

The Spanish National Police has arrested Hugo Armando Carvajal, known as “Pollo Carvajal”, a former Venezuelan Chavista general who has been missing since November 2019 and who was claimed by the US to be tried for drug trafficking, money laundering and collaboration with the FARC. .

Police sources have informed Efe that Carvajal’s arrest was carried out at 9:15 p.m. today on Torrelaguna street in the capital by agents of group two of Fugitives of the National Police, in collaboration with DEA ​​agents. North American.

Hugo Carvajal, who had an arrest warrant in force and imprisonment for the execution of the extradition to the United States, was in a home protected by several people. In that house, according to sources, he was a refugee without ever going outside.

The entry into the property has been carried out by judicial authorization and has been executed by members of the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), the riot police.

He has subsequently been transferred to the premises of the Group of Fugitives located in the Canillas police complex, police sources have indicated to EFE.

This is the second time that Carvajal has been arrested in Spain. In April 2019, he was also arrested in Madrid after entering our country with a false passport, but the National Court denied his extradition on understanding that the United States was claiming him for “a political motivation”, for which he was released.

Still on the run, his lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court the agreement adopted by the Council of Ministers on March 3 to carry out the extradition after it was authorized by the National High Court, and requested the precautionary suspension of the order, alleging that the charges were not certain and that the sole purpose of the US is to torture you to obtain information about Venezuela.

In February 2019, Hugo Carvajal dissented from Chavismo and recognized Juan Guaidó as president of Venezuela against Nicolás Maduro. The former head of the Venezuelan intelligence services during the rise of Chavismo called on the military to rebel against Maduro and support Guaidó.
