Sentence: 40 months imprisonment, of which at least two thirds were in prison
A 23-year-old German has to go to prison for at least six months (26 months) because he is a sympathizer of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS) and spread propaganda by the terrorist group. A court on Tuesday sentenced the man to 40 months’ imprisonment, of which the man was sentenced to at least two-thirds in prison.
He exchanged videos of brutal mass executions and bomb attacks
He had exchanged videos of brutal mass executions, bomb attacks and flags of the terrorist organization Islamic State with a friend on messenger services. That was revealed when officials picked him up at London’s Stansted Airport last October and discovered the contents on his cell phone.
Previously, the man had spent about half a year with friends in London. A few months ago, the 23-year-old, who originally comes from Ratingen in North Rhine-Westphalia, confessed to the incidents.
His defense attorney described him as an immature young man who did not intend to spread the propaganda material on a large scale and has since distanced himself from it. (dpa, uvo)
