When thinking about these days of the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, one should also think about the long-term consequences for the USA and the entire West.

20 years ago today the world stood still when the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York collapsed. Today the then incumbent US President, George W. Bush, will step into the lectern in Shanksville, Pennsylvania – where on September 11, 2001, Flight 93 was crashed by passengers before the plane could reach Washington. What goes on in his head, knowing that Operation Enduring Freedom two decades later led to a permanent crisis of democracy in the US?
