Kanye West and BTS top US sales charts

BILLBOARD 200 (Albums)

Kanye West lands their 10th consecutive No. 1 on the US Albums chart with their new album release, ‘Donda‘, which starts with 309,000 equivalent units, the highest figure so far this year in the United States. Specifically, the album has managed to dispatch 272,000 units in streaming equivalency and 37,000 digital sales.

With this new achievement, Kanye is now one of seven artists to have reached at least ten number 1s on the Billboard 200. He is surpassed only by The Beatles with 19, Jay-Z (14), Bruce Springsteen (11), Barbra Streisand ( 11), Eminem (10) and Elvis Presley (10). Interestingly, it also shares with Eminem the record for the most consecutive debuts at No. 1.

The other outstanding novelty of the week is starring the album ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ from Halsey, which debuts in second position with 98,000 equivalent units, including 70,500 traditional sales. It is the fourth top 2 that the American singer has achieved in a row.

The top 10 includes as the third and last novelty the new album of Lil Tecca, ‘We Love You Tecca 2‘, which starts at number 10 with 30,000 units.

The singles chart is topped this week by the theme ‘Butter‘ from BTS, which achieves its tenth non-consecutive week at number 1 after the release of a new version with the collaboration of Megan Thee Stallion. However, the song appears credited in the list only to the group since the total activity of the original track and its different versions exceeded that of the new remix with the rapper.

With this new number 1, ‘Butter‘becomes the 40th single in the more than 60-year history of the Billboard chart that has reached at least ten weeks at number 1. It is the first song to do so since’The Box’ from Roddy Ricch, which added 11 weeks to # 1 in January-March 2020. ‘ Butter‘rises to the top of the digital sales chart with 143,000 legal downloads and re-enters 35th place in the streaming top with 10.7 million views.

For its part, Kanye West puts two songs from his new album in the top 10, ‘Hurricane‘in # 6 and’Jail‘at # 10. In this song, The Weeknd, Lil Baby, Jay-Z and Francis appear as guest artists, although they are still not credited on streaming platforms. West thus achieves his 19th and 20th top 10, being the 21st artist to achieve something like this in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

It is also a good week for Walker Hayes, which rises to the top 10 for the first time with the viral success of TikTok ‘Fancy Like’. The song adds 17.4 million streams and 29,400 digital sales this week.
