Japanese Study The Value of Fast Trains Is Not Worth It, But China Continues

Former Secretary of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Said Didu revealed that the Indonesia-China Fast Train (KCIC) project from the start was not feasible. He also responded to the ballooning cost conditions for this project, based on data from September 1, that it had reached US$ 1.9 billion or almost Rp. 30 trillion or to be precise, it reached Rp. 27 trillion (at the latest exchange rate of Rp. 14,242).

“Indeed, when the Japanese study said that this project was not feasible, but when China came to say that the cost was cheaper than Japan, it turned out to be a lie, hehehe, it turned out to be very expensive,” said Said Dadu when contacted by detikcom, Thursday (9/9/2021).

The choice of China as the winner of the project was also quipped by Japanese comic artist Onan Hiroshi on social media. In the comic, it is described that China, which gave a cheaper offer, succeeded in getting rid of Japan, even though the data for the feasibility study related to the construction of the project was first carried out by the country of Sakura.

Apart from the Japanese study, Said also said the unfeasibility of the ticket price offered. In 2019, based on detikcom records, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KAIC) estimated that the cheapest Jakarta-Bandung (JKT-BDG) fast train fare was Rp. 300,000. Said himself predicts that tickets will be sold for Rp. 400 thousand.

“You can imagine whether the ticket is worth Rp 400 thousand from Jakarta to Bandung. Is there anyone who wants to take the train for Rp 400 thousand? It’s better to take a bus or take a car,” said Said.

He stated that this project was a trap for China to acquire other strategic Indonesian projects. He asked that officials be held accountable.

“But I still state, it is better if the 30% increase and the increase should have officials who are asked to be responsible for this project. Because it is certain that it will harm SOEs and harm the state, for sure,” he concluded.
