– Has no friends

Mar-a-lago is a luxury property and members’ club owned by former President Donald Trump. The club is located on Palm Beach in Florida – about an hour’s drive north of Miami.

Property magnate Jeff Greene, who joined the club in 2010, says opposite The Financial Times that he doesn’t think the former president has any friends – despite the fact that Trump is always surrounded by lots of people at Mar-a-Lago.

– Everything is transactional. They want to be around him because he is an ex-president. Trump likes people to indulge him (…) and tell him how good he is, says Greene to the newspaper.

He adds:

– I don’t think he has any friends. I mean it honestly – I have a friend who plays golf with him all the time, but he never went to the White House. I don’t even think he was invited, he says.

Good relationship

Greene, who is a Democrat, has run as a candidate in both the Senate and gubernatorial elections in 2010 and 2018, respectively, but lost both times.

Before the property magnate ran for governor in 2018, he and Trump are said to have had a good relationship. However, it was only because he is a billionaire, Greene believes.

– Trump used to come over to my table – I think it was because I’m a billionaire. He likes billionaires. It is important to him. He likes people who are rich and famous, he says.

Luxury property

During his presidency, Trump changed his residential address from Trump Tower in Manhattan in New York to the luxury property at Mar-a-Lago.

The 10,000 square meter building in Mar-a-Lago ended up in Donald Trump’s hands in 1985 for the tidy sum of 10 million dollars, corresponding to NOK 85,856,000 according to the average exchange rate that year.

WAS DROPPED: Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he is again running for president. The following day, however, it was the lack of TV time that received the most attention in the American media.

Built between 1924 and 1927, the 126-room luxury property served as one of several homes for Marjorie Merriweather Post, described as one of America’s most successful businesswomen.

In the early 1990s, Trump converted it from a private residence to a private club.
