Gabby Petito murder case: Police reveal the cause of death of fiancé Brian Laundrie

Cologne / Washington –

In the murder case of the American woman Gabby Petito, who was missing for weeks, there are now new findings. As the investigating prosecutor announced on Tuesday, her fiancé Brian Laundrie committed suicide around a month after her body was found. This was the result of the final autopsy report. Laundrie was found in a Florida wildlife sanctuary in mid-October with a gunshot wound to the head.

The 23-year-old was the focus of the investigation, but was not classified as a suspect. The police spoke of a “person of interest”, a person who could have important information in connection with the disappearance and death of Gabby Petito. Laundrie and his fiancée Petito set off on a month-long road trip across the United States in July.

Petito posted pictures of the trip in August and was enthusiastic about nature in the USA. On September 1st, however, only Laundrie returned home – without his fiancée Petito. Her body was found after a large-scale search eight days later in the wilderness of Wyoming. Laundrie was initially silent about the police. Shortly afterwards he also disappeared after the coroner assumed a homicide.

The case gained attention mainly due to its high social media presence. In addition to numerous TV specials, the hashtag “#GabbyPetito” was used frequently, especially on Instagram and TikTok, and short videos with the hashtag achieved more than a billion views.

Petito and Laundrie lived with his parents in North Port in Florida until their death. Both of them documented their journey on a YouTube channel, the channel recently had more than 100,000 subscribers. The last published video, a compilation of your experiences on the road trip, has now more than five million views. (shh)
