The people in Freiburg and in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district can now use the app. The health department successfully tested them for almost a week. Many shops, institutions and companies are now looking forward to using the Luca app.
Freiburg’s Mayor Martin Horn is pleased about the introduction of the app. It is another building block for fighting the pandemic and normalizing our lives. However, the success of this app depends crucially on the fact that it is used by many people involved. Freiburg wants to use the Luca app also when opening the museums and the city library.
The Luca app is intended to relieve the health authorities of contact tracking. Instead of leaving their contact details on paper each time they visit a restaurant or event, as before, visitors scan themselves at the entrance and exit using a QR code. In the event of a corona infection, the app transmits the data directly and securely to the responsible health department, thus making it easier to follow up on contacts. The app can also be used for private meetings.
The Freiburg / Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald region is an official pilot district in Baden-Württemberg. The other two are the Bodenseekreis and Reutlingen.

Private individuals can download the app directly from the app store of the relevant smartphone manufacturer.
