France sees NATO in serious crisis over submarine deal

Paris: The French government sees the NATO defense alliance in a serious crisis after a failed submarine deal with Australia. Foreign Minister Le Drian accuses the USA and Australia of a serious breach of trust. As part of a new alliance in the Pacific region, Australia had announced that it would buy US nuclear submarines instead of French models as agreed. Le Drian puts the volume of the collapsed business at more than 50 billion euros.
