Former rider Sørensen (37) dies in accident

Danish former cyclist Chris Anker Sørensen died on Saturday in a traffic accident in Zeebrugge. He was in Belgium to co-comment next week’s World Cup.

Sørensen, 37, was cycling when the accident happened.

Sørensen was a professional rider from 2007 to 2018, rode for CSC, Saxo Bank and Tinkoff, among others, and recorded five victories. For example, he won a stage in the Dauphiné (2008) and the Giro (2010) and became Danish champion in 2015.

In 2012, he narrowly missed a stage win in the Tour de France. That year he was named the most combative rider of the Tour. He then finished the Tour despite serious injuries to his fingers.
