Schwerin (dpa / mv) – 25 cinemas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were awarded the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cinema Culture Prize on Thursday. Due to the corona pandemic and the associated losses for movie theaters that have been closed for a long time, the state has increased the sum of the prize money from 75,000 to 100,000 euros, as State Chancellor Heiko Geue (SPD) announced at the award ceremony.

According to the information, the annual programs of the cinemas were awarded. The cinema culture award is a sign of appreciation for the variety of programs, for the places and the people who create them, according to Geue.

As the State Chancellery also announced, the state has launched an aid program “Cinema contra Corona”, which is intended to alleviate the loss of sales by cinema operators after state aid has expired. For this, 600,000 euros have been made available. In addition, the state will launch its own MV cinema investment program “Film Ab” with a volume of three million euros this year. This is intended to enable the film theaters to undertake structural and other investment measures that are urgently needed.
