Zamalek said on its official website that the club deposited in the bank account of its player Ashraf Bencharki an amount of 12 million pounds in arrears.
He explained that he paid the amount on the last day of the legal deadline for payment “before rescinding the contract to keep one of the team’s stars.”
Bencharki will participate with the Moroccan national team in the 2021 African Cup, which is currently taking place in Cameroon.
Bencharki, 27, is spending his third season with Zamalek since joining the team from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.
Bencharki participated in 85 matches with Zamalek, scored 35 goals and sent 20 assists.
He won four titles with the team.
Bencharki’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and Zamalek is still trying to persuade the player to extend his contract.
