Four minutes later, American Airlines Flight 11 pierced the north tower of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. The 9/11 terror horror had begun. Beamer’s flight is also hijacked over Ohio. Al-Qaeda terrorist Ziad Samir Jarrah takes the helm and sets course for Washington. The presumed destination: The Capitol!

Only: Some passengers had heard of the plane attacks against the Twin Towers and the Pentagon through phone calls. They knew: this is not a normal kidnapping!

Beamer became the ringleader of a heroic uprising on board: Together with Mark Bingham, Tom Burnett, Jeremy Glick and other passengers, they are planning to recapture the cockpit. Beamer then recites Psalm 23 (“The Lord is my Shepherd …”) as a prayer while the group stands together.

Then he says: “Are you ready? OK. Let’s roll! “. The order to attack. During a fight in the cockpit, control of the transport machine is lost, Flight 93 crashes at 903 km / h in a field near Shanksville (US state Pennsylvania). The fighting can be heard on the voice recorder that was later recovered. A kidnapper yells: “Allahu akbar!” There are 44 dead, but another mass murder with possible hundreds of victims was prevented.

David Beamer, Todd’s father, was working in California that day, he didn’t even know that Todd and his family had already returned from Italy. So at first he thought nothing when he found out about the terrorist attacks.

“My wife Peggy received a call from Todd’s wife Lisa,” says the father in an interview with BILD: “My wife contacted my secretary and a close work colleague came to a meeting – and told me about it.” Todd was dead.

David Beamer speaks in an interview with BILD Live – 20 years after the death of his son – about the heroic deeds on board Flight 93, the memories of the enormous moral courage that he will uphold throughout his life and also his horror at the recent US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
