It was the words that preceded one of the greatest exploits in US history. Todd Beamer (32), a sales manager at Oracle, was the day before with his pregnant wife Lisa and his two young sons Drew (then 1) and David (3) from a vacation in Italy in their home town of Cranbury (US state New Jersey) returned. He actually wanted to fly to a meeting in California that same day, but decided to take another flight the next morning. September 11, 2011.
Todd Beamer kissed his family goodbye when he left the house at 6:15 a.m. He drove to the airport in Newark. Flight 93 to San Francisco had a take-off time of 8 a.m., but the Boeing 757 didn’t take off until 8:42 a.m.

Four minutes later, American Airlines Flight 11 pierced the north tower of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. The 9/11 terror horror had begun. Beamer’s flight is also hijacked over Ohio. Al-Qaeda terrorist Ziad Samir Jarrah takes the helm and sets course for Washington. The presumed destination: The Capitol!
Only: Some passengers had heard of the plane attacks against the Twin Towers and the Pentagon through phone calls. They knew: this is not a normal kidnapping!
Beamer became the ringleader of a heroic uprising on board: Together with Mark Bingham, Tom Burnett, Jeremy Glick and other passengers, they are planning to recapture the cockpit. Beamer then recites Psalm 23 (“The Lord is my Shepherd …”) as a prayer while the group stands together.
Then he says: “Are you ready? OK. Let’s roll! “. The order to attack. During a fight in the cockpit, control of the transport machine is lost, Flight 93 crashes at 903 km / h in a field near Shanksville (US state Pennsylvania). The fighting can be heard on the voice recorder that was later recovered. A kidnapper yells: “Allahu akbar!” There are 44 dead, but another mass murder with possible hundreds of victims was prevented.
David Beamer, Todd’s father, was working in California that day, he didn’t even know that Todd and his family had already returned from Italy. So at first he thought nothing when he found out about the terrorist attacks.
“My wife Peggy received a call from Todd’s wife Lisa,” says the father in an interview with BILD: “My wife contacted my secretary and a close work colleague came to a meeting – and told me about it.” Todd was dead.
