Rail traffic in the region is also badly affected by the ongoing strike by the train drivers’ union GDL at the weekend. Excursions are still possible – with good planning.
In regional and local transport operated by Deutsche Bahn, significantly less than 40 percent of the trains on the normal timetable run. This quota is cited by DB as the nationwide average for regional traffic, but is clearly missed in the Freiburg area.
On Saturday only four trains on the Höllentalbahn
Excursions by train in the region in late summer weather are still possible, if you adjust to the travel times of the few trains and additional bus connections. Example Black Forest: The Breisgau S-Bahn, coming from Breisach, runs four times from Freiburg on the route of the Höllentalbahn to Titisee on Saturday at 8.10, 11.40, 15.10 and 18.40. In the opposite direction, the trains in Titisee start at 9.08, 12.38, 16.08 and 20.08, but the last train in the evening ends in Freiburg. There are bus connections from Titisee to Hüfingen and – to a much lesser extent – to Schluchsee. Also in the area of the Rheintalbahn and at the Kaiserstuhl bus connections offer supplements and alternatives to the reduced train traffic. These are displayed on the Deutsche Bahn homepage. However, it is advisable to take a closer look at the travel time, as some connection suggestions take several hours.
Traffic on Sunday is only online from 11 a.m. on Saturday
For Sunday, September 5, the connections will only be displayed in the course of Saturday, probably from 11 a.m., in the DB’s online information media.
