Electric transporter: Preckel Group becomes Maxus partner

The Preckel car dealership group, headquartered in Krefeld, is entering the business with vans from the Chinese brand Maxus. The two new partners announced this today. Accordingly, Preckel Automobile will sell and repair the electric vans of the subsidiary of the Chinese SAIC group at six of its nine locations. Although unknown in many places in this country, it is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world and is responsible for the revival of the MG brand in this country, among other things.

The Maxus portfolio in this country currently consists of four vans of different sizes. Three of them are operated purely electrically. In the end, this portfolio was the decisive factor for Preckel managing director Jörn Wohlers: “Electrically powered commercial vehicles are the perfect solution for companies and service providers who mainly operate in urban areas. We were won over by the combination of sustainable drive and unrestricted utility of the Maxus vans.” he explained.

Milestone for Maxus importer

For the Maxus importer Maxomotive Deutschland, the new trade and service partner is an important success: By the end of the year, the company has set itself the goal of expanding the dealer network from around 20 to 60 locations. The six locations of the Preckel Group are therefore an important milestone. “With the new agreement, we are in an excellent position in the Rhineland and can offer our customers a dense and reliable service network,” said Gerald Lautenschläger, Country Manager for Maxus in Germany. In the medium term, Maxomotive is aiming for 150 locations for its sales network.

Large-scale company renovation

For the Preckel Group, the expansion of the commercial vehicle business with the new brand is part of a far-reaching company restructuring. This included the change of name from “P&A Preckel Group” to “Preckel Automobile”, which was completed on September 1st. This became necessary because the business partner and managing director Christoph Arians withdrew from the company at the end of 2018.

The management currently consists of Jörn Wohlers and Verena Preckel, who also represent the fourth generation of the owner family in the 101-year-old family company.

Fewer locations and centralization

In the course of the company restructuring, the group also reduced the number of its locations. In 2020, for example, the location on the Düsseldorf automobile mile on Höherweg went to the Essen-based BOB Automotive Group. In addition, the bodywork area and central functions such as accounting, scheduling and IT have been centralized.

According to its own statements, the company is currently in the process of digitizing all dealership processes in order to become “paperless”. This goes hand in hand with extensive investments in the locations, for example in a new IT architecture with a final switch to the cloud at the beginning of 2022.

Preckel Automobile GmbH currently operates car dealerships in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Heiligenhaus, Solingen, Geldern, Kleve and Wuppertal. The brands in the portfolio include Renault, Dacia, Nissan, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Kia and now also Maxus.
